I loved The Professional Photo, Film, TV and Personal Stylist's Course from my very first tutorial and assignment to my last. The sadness I felt when it was all over is a testament to what a great course this was. From the thrill of getting up at 4 am on a Monday (like a child on Christmas morning), just to see what my next tutorial and assignment were, to getting my much-anticipated feedback emails.
I am a technophobe; it's an age thing. I can still clearly remember, as if it was yesterday, sitting and staring at a blank word document and thinking, 'I will never be able to do this', and that was only my first assignment! I didn't even know how to add a picture to a document, let alone anything else. When I look back on it now and see how far I have come, with the support and encouragement I received from all those involved - from the admin staff to my wonderful tutor - I am so thankful and just a little bit proud of myself.
I was totally out of my comfort zone, but because I was so enthused by the subject matter in all the tutorials, I pushed myself further than I ever thought possible, creating portfolios for friends and clients (colour and body shape analysis, style reports). I did wardrobe makeovers, personal shopping (in-store and online) and personal styling. I now have my own website, a weekly blog, a Facebook and Instagram page, and I did all of this on my own, with a little (maybe a lot) of help from the professionals.
I offer personal styling and shopping services, style makeovers, colour and body analysis, wardrobe makeover (cull) and finally, the use/ hire of anything from my personal collection (not everyone can afford to or want to buy something new for just one occasion). I have a dressing room full of goodies and can offer advice on what best suits.
This course has given me the ability to help others find themselves. It has also helped me find the real me. Who would have thought that at my age, I would be finally doing something I enjoy doing and having the confidence to do it.
