I have always been interested in fashion and styling friends and family. I have worked in community investment for the last ten years, and in the last two years, I worked with a resilience coach to create a course for personal development for employment. I could really see the benefit in the investment of people. Alongside my support work for vulnerable people, I decided to invest in myself and took an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Practitioner course. I started to deliver a Dress to Success session on the employment course and found very early on that people needed to be more connected with their clothes to start to support their mindset. So, this is when I started exploring what I could do. I found The Professional Photo Film, TV and Personal Stylist’s Course.
The course was different to what I was used to, but it worked really well. I love the fact that I had the flexibility to learn and kept to my own routine on getting homework submitted within a week. The tutorials were easy to follow and full of content. The nice thing about this course is that everything is at your fingertips to refer back to. I loved that you could really let your creativity flow and at the same time, follow the guidelines and examples that were provided. I had such fun with my case studies and at the same time, found it very rewarding being able to support them with a habit change in how they wore their clothes. I received some great feedback and people were taking on board the advice I was giving them.
After finishing the course, I decided to leave my corporate job and set up my own business. I Got Style was launched on 6th April and in such space of time, I’ve engaged with new customers. I have been really fortunate in being able to deliver a follow up for personal development and confidence building. As well as personal styling, I am utilising my coaching qualification to support those with very low self-esteem. I pride myself in being a big support for the Transgender community and helping many people to feel comfortable in their own skin.
