Since finishing the sixth form I wasn't sure what I wanted to do next. Fashion has always been an interest of mine. I have, for a long time, enjoyed helping others shop and style themselves but never thought of it as a potential career until I started researching and discovered the British College of Professional Styling.
This course has been so enjoyable and I really do recommend it for anyone looking for a great, specialised course that you can do from the comfort of your home and at your own pace during the two-year timeframe. The tutorials are full of so much useful information and really opened my eyes to the fashion styling industry. The information is displayed in such a way that it is not overwhelming but inviting.
Just when I thought I had all the facts and tools I needed from each tutorial, I was given even more personalised information in my assignment feedback from my tutor. My feedback was always lovely to receive and a great confidence boost by reassuring me I was on the right track. My tutor was also great at giving me constructive feedback and showed me ways to improve. The assignments were really practical and enabled me to explore my newly learnt knowledge, skills and creativity.
The tutorial I enjoyed the most was fashion through the ages. It’s amazing to see what styles came before us and how much it influence today’s fashion. My main interest is styling people so I loved learning more about this as well. I felt I already had an eye for fashion and now I have the tools and knowledge to understand things such as body shapes and colour palettes – essential knowledge for a successful professional stylist.
Now I have completed this course I can really see myself reaching my goal of having my own freelance styling business, something the course has helped me explore. For now I am working in retail as a sales consultant but I have already noticed myself use information from the course when interacting with customers. I have been styling family and friends for practice and I aim to work my way further into the industry using what I have learnt from this course. What I have learnt, has and will, open many doors for me.
What I love the most about the course is the support and communication provided by the
British College of Professional Styling staff. They are so quick to respond to emails and I really appreciate how willing they are to continue to offer support even after graduation.
I truly feel I have the necessary skills to go far in the styling world and that is all down to this course. Everything I have learnt and all the materials I now have at my fingertips will always be useful as I grow my career. It's invaluable.
